Hopeful Distress Горе-надежда

My translation of Lilia Vinogradova's song "Горе-надежда" from "Deja vu" album, performed by Dmitri Hvorostovsky

My heart, why do you

Feel like gone with blizzard,

Hearing ghostly fortune

Languishing and call?

Or to oboe tunes

Some young fragile voices

Sing a song of dreams, forgotten, over you?

How to save all things through life you cherish?

Not to tear with world the only thread?

I don’t feel, for all I’d done, my pity,

Though shall regret for things forever dead…

Someone’s shade in glass

Makes a cross behind you

While a crazy spring

Is laughing at your back

Not a sick at heart, nor a fear of crying -

Just hopeful distress will be forever one!

How to save all things through life you cherish?

Not to tear with world the only thread?

I don’t feel, for all I’d done, my pity

Though shall regret for things forever dead

After long parting, passions are starting

Feels as if they’re taken from your inmost dreams:

Passionately, speedy, recklessly, greedy

And, again, your hope in life’s forever one!

……………………………………

……………………………………

I don’t feel, for all I’d done, my pity

Though shall regret for things forever dead

Though shall regret for things forever dead

Only shall regret for things forever dead…
